Sit-ups

The abs classic, countable from the front or from the side, which is rarer than it sounds.

The movement

Loading the coach

How to do it

  1. On your back, knees bent, feet flat on the floor.
  2. Roll up until your chest comes towards your knees, without pulling on your neck.
  3. Come back down under control until your shoulder blades touch the floor.

The two mistakes that cost you reps

  • Pulling on the back of your head, which loads the neck instead of the abs.
  • Bouncing off the floor to launch the next rep.

How Orusta counts it

Orusta reads the hip angle and the rise of your torso, so it counts whether the camera sees you from the front or from the side.

Easier, harder

Easier

Arms crossed on your chest rather than behind your head.

Harder

Arms stretched above your head, or pause at the top of each rep.

What a good set looks like

30 to 50 reps in a set. Beyond that it becomes cardio more than abs.
